What are you listening to?

The other day my family and I went out for a tea.  While we were enjoying our time together, the coffee shop started playing a singer I used to like. While we were listening to her music it was surprising that we all agreed that her songs made us feel down. I remembered those times when I listened to her and all kind of bad memories started to come to my mind. All of a sudden I was depressed. The same thing happened to me when I listened to other singers. Either I felt excited, happy, lonely, sad.

This morning, I read a devotional that quoted Job  34:3 “For the ear tests words, as the palate tastes food.” It is amazing how everything we listen affects our emotions, state of mind and even our actions.

If you feel down and confused,  have you asked yourself what and who you are listening to. I exhort you today to be aware of how you are nurturing your body, soul, mind and spirit. And if you want to go further in that auto-examination, meditate in how what you are listening to is also affecting your husband/wife and children

As Nancy Campbell says, “we must learn to sift the words we hear. We live in a world of deception and must learn to discern what is truth in the midst of it all. The greatest way to be able to discern deception is to be immersed in the Word of God. The more of the Word of God  you have in your heart, the more you will discern deception.”
